The article "Don't Rule Out Apple Ruling Your Living Room" caught my eye because I thought, "Wow, what new innovating product does Apple have now?!" The sad reality is that there is nothing new about this little box except the color.
My friend, an Apple/tech junkie, bought Apple TV right when it came out and I was disappointed. I thought it was a waste of money. Sure you can watch YouTube videos and buy movies...but that's nothing special! What happened to Apple products blowing my mind?
The article discusses how Apple is trying to get the rights to certain tv shows to offer on Apple TV. If Apple somehow can eliminate the need for cable tv I would definitely buy one! If there was a possible way to buy channels a la carte (for example the History Channel, Food Network, Comedy Central, etc.) Apple TV might have something. I hope in the near future Apple TV gets the licensing rights!
After looking at this article I was a little confused about what the purpose of this Apple TV was, other than a new thing for Apple Junkies to stand in line for hours to buy when it hits stores. I agree that there doesn't seem to be anything special about this product, I don't really have a need for watching YouTube videos on my TV. Since I haven’t heard much about this new Apple TV, perhaps Apple doesn’t think it is that great either. Maybe I’ve miss it, but there doesn’t seem to be the advertisements and excitement surrounding the TV as there has been for previous Apple products like the Iphone and Ipad. It seems like this product needs some more revamping. Like you mentioned, if they could make this an alternative to cable I think they would have something.
ReplyDeleteAfter reading the title of this article, my first thought was "Wow, I haven't even heard of the Apple TV, where have I been?" I thought this because usually when Apple comes out with a new product, everyone knows about it because they develop several commercials and billboards advertising the product. Then, I was even more surprised to learn that it first came out in 2006!
ReplyDeleteBecause Apple obviously didn't use the same marketing and advertising approach with this new TV as they did with the iPod, iPhone and iPad, I was wondering if maybe the lack of marketing is why the product failed. Like Dean Jones talked about in class last Monday, it was Apple's marketing and advertising that made everyone want the iPad even though it actually does LESS than the iPhone.
I really do like the a la carte idea though, since most people only watch a select few channels anyway. Overall, purchasing channels a la carte is something I would definitely consider; however I was less than impressed by the Apple TV.
Apple TV? Who knew this existed?
ReplyDeleteI went on Apple's website just to read up a little bit more about it and it's not even a tab at the top of the page.
This new invention obviously hasn't made the impact of products such as the Mac, iPhone or iPod but why have it if you're not making it known? I'm with you, Amanda. It sounds like a great idea but they haven't done a great job of getting the word out there.
It seems like connection is easy though, just plug it in. Let's hope that's the case. I know I hate when I get a new tv and it requires set-up and cable wires, etc. This new Apple TV could really have something going, too bad this is the first I've heard of it!
Does it worry anyone that Apple had found yet another way to tap into our lives? What's next Apple cars?
After first thinking about the Apple TV I thought this ws just a bad idea Steve Jobs had but after reading and really thinking more into it I think I could be wrong. From what it sounds like they are keeping the Apple Tv around for reasons they have planned for in the future. It sounds like they just need to work out some problems with some of the contracts they are working on. We may see in the future that this product really starts to launch more and more with the a la carte channels taking off.
ReplyDeleteI think that Steve Jobs is looking in the long run with this product and really just getting started with it, but what do i know it could just end up being a bust for him.
